For immediate release, Mountain View, CA, June 12, 2000. sp3 Inc. ACQUIRES CML DIAMOND MANUFACTURING FACILITIES
sp3 Inc., Mountain View, CA, based manufacturer of diamond cutting tools, is pleased to announce that it has acquired the diamond manufacturing facilities of Crystalline Manufacturing Ltd. (CML) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The acquisition allows sp3 to add the thick-film polycrystalline diamond manufacturing capability of CML to its existing DIAbide thin-film diamond capability, thus further broadening sp3's range of diamond cutting tools. The acquisition confirms sp3's commitment to the manufacture of a full spectrum of diamond cutting tools. CML's state-of-the-art facilities include multiple DC torch deposition reactors, and laser cutting, polishing and metrology equipment. Current products include heatspreaders for high power laser diodes, transistors, and monolithic integrated circuits. sp3 will develop thick-film cutting tools at the Calgary facility. All present CML staff are now employees of sp3 Inc. sp3 manufactures the world's largest offering of diamond-coated carbide cutting tools over 500 styles of endmills, drills, indexable inserts, profiling inserts, multiple-flute routers, and saws. Tools are produced using sp3 patented deposition technology and hot-filament reactors developed by sp3.
